Savannah elephants (loxodanta africana)

There are two type of elephants in the world :The Asian elephant and the Savannah elephant (loxodonta africana).
Savannah elephants are mamals. The mâle weighs 6 tonnes and it is between 3 and 3,4 metres tall . The female weighs 3 tonnes only because it is between 2,5 and 3 metres tall . Their colour is grey . they have got a little fur, two tusks and a trunk . Their
tail measures between 1 and 1,3 metres . They have got 4 toes on their forefeet and five toes on their hindfeet . They have got two large ears and their skin is wrinkled . They live in East Sub-Sahara and in Central Africa . They live in the Savannah,
grassland and deserts. They are vegetarian because they eat barks,fruits,grass and leaves. Humans kill elephants because they have got two ivory tusks . They can live up to 55-60 years ( 80 in captivity ). The female gives birth to a baby every 3 and 4 years( after 22 months of pregnancy ). They live in groups : they eat,drink and walk during the day and sleep at night . Savannah elephants are endangered because they are hunted for their ivory . They are now protected species . They are the biggest land animals in the world.
